Smoothing Iron Ridge SW, Asotin County, Washington 21 miles SW of Clarkston, elevation approximately 5,000 feet.  Reached from Road 44, approximately four miles north from junction of Road 43.  The view looks into the North Fork of the South Fork of Asotin Creek, a tributary of the Snake River.  Pomeroy Ranger District, Umatilla National Forest.

It is easier to make a comparison when zooming in on one area.  One sees evidence of clear-cut logging from the nineteen eighties at the top center of the cropped image, otherwise the forest has become thicker.  In the absence of fires that would naturally thin the forest, the spaces between trees have filled in.
